Henderson Hills Activity Center: Making More of a Multi-Purpose Space

For Henderson Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma, the project started with a relationship that had already been built. The church’s production and technical director had previously worked with Avenue Systems at another church, and when he moved to Oklahoma, that connection eventually led Henderson Hills to Avenue Systems.

The project focused on the church’s activity center, a large gymnasium that serves a lot of different purposes. It’s used for worship, overflow services, meals, and other large gatherings. The existing technology was getting old, and the acoustics made it difficult to get the kind of clear, comfortable sound the church needed.

Avenue Systems worked with the team to find a solution that made sense for the space and how they actually use it. The project included a new L-Acoustics PA system, a new Panasonic projector and Daylight screen, adjusted lighting positions, and acoustic panels to help control the echo in the room.

Because the space is used for so many different things, keeping the technology simple and familiar was important. Instead of replacing everything, Avenue Systems was able to reuse the church’s existing control system. That meant the staff could continue working with equipment and controls they already knew while still getting a noticeable improvement in the overall system.

The finished space is more flexible and much easier to use. It can transition from a large gathering or meal to a worship environment without feeling like the technology is fighting against the space.

This project is a good reminder of the value of relationships. Henderson Hills was a new client for Avenue Systems, but the trust behind the project had been built years before. In the end, that relationship opened the door to a project that helped make an important space work better for the church and the people who use it.
